Lists Task
[info]mitchcurtin
Got onto the list task and a have been given a few questions to answer about it.

What are the pros and cons of email lists versus discussion boards?
Emails list are a great way to communicate and get information out. This information is sent direct to everyone on the list, although its quick and easy the information might not be relevant to everyone. Discussion boards are not a direct way for information to reach a whole list of people at once but when logged onto or searching through a discussion board the single internet user can obtain only the information need by scanning through the thread titles and finding the right information. Lists are a great thing in theory but the information might not be right for everyone where as a discussion board is slower but more acurate.

Are there certain kinds of communication or purposes more suited to one than the other? Communication such as being able to reach other students and teachers where you only want to contact people who are looking for info or giving info on the same topic. List could be used for planned event such as party on new years eve, etc. Wehre people have added themselves to a list wanting information about the general topic.

Email tasks
[info]mitchcurtin
The first task for module 2 is some emails tasks. I have had to answer some questions here they are.

1.What information about a user's email, the origin of a message, and the path it took, can you glean from an email message?
You can find out about a user email by looking at the sent to bar and see their email address placed in there eg. (bob@sales.com)

2. In what cases would you find it useful to use the 'cc', 'bcc' and 'reply all functions of email? You would find it useful to use CC if you want to send a copy of the email to another person, the BCC if you want to send a copy to a paerson but don't want anyone else seeing that the received it and the reply to all if you want to send back an email to all the addresses attached to the email you received.

3. In what ways can you ensure that an attachment you send will be easily opened by the receiver? To make an attachment that would be easily opened by all computer you would send it as ASCII because all computers can read this. Or a RTF becuase most computers can read this will some formatting added.

4. What sorts of filters or rules do you have set up, and for what purpose?
I have Hotmail so I have some basics filters set-up such as using the junk-mail feature for emails I dont want to receive. Saving certain emails from friends or other important people or websites in tdifferent named foldesr so I can reference back to them later, And also using the Messenger Hotmail link up to advise me of emails I have just received while I am on the computer.

5. How have you organised the folder structure of your email and why? I have 5 different folders I use they are: Freinds, Uni, Work, Newsleters and Others. I have organised it this way to make it simpler for myself to find the important emails I have saved instead of looking through one big inbox.

Thats the answers for the emails tasks one. There are things I thought I had down using very easy and I am finding out that things such as emaila re more complex than I though. Myabe this is my first steps to becoming an advanced user :D

Today at Wrigleys
[info]mitchcurtin
Well Wrigleys is the place where they make all your favorite chewing gum, and I have been working there casual for the last 6 months.

A great job really, (if you could call any factory shift work great lol) and today my boss Bill came up and offered me a full-time job.

It gives me a great bit more stability in my life and alot less stress worry about my next day of work.

So now I have that down back to the tasks at hand.

Internet tools optional task.

FTP task and some of my thoughts on Online studying.
[info]mitchcurtin
Well havent been on for a few days. I'm finding it a bit hard to keep up the consistency of study around my job. But getting the hang of it step by step :D.

Anyways onto to the FTP task of the unit.

Took me a while to figure out how to log into the Curtin FTP Address. Simple really lol i just didn't put FTP:// in front of the address. I was thinking too deep into it ( a thing I can account doing many times). Found the file CAPITILIZATION MATTERS.

Ok well my thoughts.

Easy task once i got into it. Starting things is my problem, but alas, I will be doing this alot more as I am very keen to put all of my effort into this course. This is actually a great way to learn. Finding out your pro's and cons while self completing a degree I think will make me more ready for the future career path i chose.
Ok well im out for another post. Come back soon :D

Module 1 Task B. Tenet's fun side
[info]mitchcurtin
Well well who could of though something like that could of been created on telnet. To elaborate which i kinda forgot to do in my last post,
Telnet was the internet first application by which telnet logged into another computer over connect networks without actually having to be physically connected to it. This task involved logging into a certain telnet link telnet://towel.blinkenlights.nl.
What came up was a very creative text based version of star wars, like an early version of flash games and the such i guess you could say.
To be able to sit down back when telnet was around must of been amazing.

Ok so to me the evolution of the internet from an application such as telnet would have been and continues to be a struggle for any programmer or web based designed to keep coming up wit new and intuitive ways. But with some of the programs we have today which step by step help us create these thing such as site like miniclip.com a flash and shockwave player game website to myspace and facebook the internet is becoming a more user friendly place for the common user to find information and connect with friends, let alone the advanced user to keep upto date with technological advancements and the such.

Module 1 Task A. Accessing Telnet
[info]mitchcurtin
Well this was an experience of a different kind. Telnet is very different from the normal www we use today.
I figured out that my Imac with Safari has Telnet built in by doing as the task says by writing telnet:// in my address bar. Using such a simple thing like telnet is actually quiet different at first because of just that.

I then followed the step to search the author Bennahum and send and email to myself of this search.

This is my first task in my internet studies degree and is exciting to learn about something that has been around since the internet has but I have not known was there. I know there wil be many more amazing things that this course will teach me about the internet and its uses and history and future and can't wait to learn them.

My first post :D... and 5 best tips for new bloggers.
[info]mitchcurtin
Hi this is my first post using a blog as requested by the online course i have stared to study. Hope all goes well and here are my 5 tips that i think should be used for blogging.

1. Create a one way based conversation between you and your blog reader. Make sure what you type down can be easily created (by the reader) into emotion and understanding.

2. To communicate your ideas in an unbiased way so that the mass of blog readers can make personal opinions on your personal thoughts.

3. Do not post anyones writing as your own. Make sure you reference other work if you do include it in your blog or make your own ideas and become a creative blogger!

4. Try to be creative in your words. Quality is better then quantity in keeping your reader interested and coming back to view your blog.

5. final one. Enjoy it! Your blog is your personal view on things, make it exciting to you so you keep coming back to keep it up to date and your readers will too.
